30 day challenge update and CrossFit

The Yoga is going well. I have only done four days of Yoga because I am not doing it on the weekend, but I have already noticed a difference in my flexibility and my ability to complete the workout.  The first day I definitely didn't finish the full boat pose.  Which is essentially balancing on the tailbone with the legs and torso lifted off of the ground.  Which today I was able to complete.  I still shake like crazy, but that is ok.  The lady in the video shakes a little bit too.

I have started doing a little too much I think.  I wanted to work out daily during the week and take the weekends off.  But I am starting to think that is too much.  I am not sore, but I am extremely tired when I finish my work day.  Also, I have been having trouble getting motivated to do anything around the house in the evening.  So what I might go to is two runs during the week and two strength training exercises while continuing to take the weekends off.  Luckily, this wasn't part of the 30 day challenge and so I feel fine about modifying it.  I am still going to do Yoga every morning.  It is low-impact enough that I feel like I can do it every morning without injuring myself.  And the point is to make it a habit.  Yoga every morning.

I asked one of my friends at work about helping me with some ideas for workouts that I could do.  I have been thinking about doing a tough mudder in the fall.  I downloaded the workout recommended for that event and have been using it as my strength training day.  But that is still 8 months away and I didn't want to get burnt out.  My friend got really excited and started talking to me about CrossFit.  Which I guess is what he has been doing for years.  He gave me a website to check out and asked if I wanted to work out with him.  I said yes and we went to the gym the other day.  It was a really good workout.  I am not sure that I am a convert, but I will keep trying it.  Check out the website...http://www.crossfit.com/

30 Day fitness challenge

I have started a series of life-enhancing actions in the form of the 30 day challenge.  In essence, I choose one or two activities or mental challenges that I have always wanted to do in my life.  I then do those things for 30 days. The idea being that 30 days isn't long enough to be intimidating, but it is long enough to form new habits.  I have completed one such challenge in which I wrote in another blog that I have everyday for 30 days.  It worked to the extent that I now think about writing at least a couple of times during the day.  Something will happen and I will think, "I should really put that in the blog today." But it didn't work in that I didn't set up a specific time during the day to do it, so I didn't really form a new habit.  Just a new something to think about.

So for my next 30 day challenge, I have decided to get a little more specific.  I will wake up every work-day morning at 0630 and do a Yoga dvd.  I have two.  One is half an hour and the other is an hour.  I figure that I can start with the half hour one, and as that becomes less challenging I will move on to the hour one. There is also a 20 minute ab only track on the hour long dvd, so I can most likely work that into the routine.  I mean, it is my challenge, I make up the rules right?

At any rate, I began this challenge this morning with some hesitance. But now that I have done the practice (workout in Yoga terms) I feel much better about it and I am excited to see it through.

Today being the 20th and January having 31 days, this challenge will be completed on the 18th of February.  Pretty exciting!
